Getting started
Tap IMPORT / LIBRARY to bring in your media (from Photos, Files, or the camera). Turn on PAD PARAM and tap an empty pad to assign a file to it. Turn PAD PARAM off, then tap a pad to play it instantly. Use GO to step forward through your assigned pads in order, BACK to step back, and STOP to clear the output (it remembers your place so GO resumes).
Frequently asked questions
What files can I import?
Video (H.264 MP4/MOV), images (JPG/PNG), audio (WAV/AIFF/MP3), and PDF slide decks. Import from your Photo Library or the Files app, or capture a photo/video with the camera.
How do I show a PowerPoint or Keynote deck?
Export it as a PDF (both PowerPoint and Keynote have "Export as PDF"), then import the PDF and assign it to a pad. Selecting the pad opens page 1; GO advances one page at a time and BACK goes back a page. This keeps your slides pixel-exact and works fully offline.
What are the VFX buttons (MOGRAPH, CHYRON, VIGNETTE, FILM, FANFARE, CELEBRATE)?
A row of live overlay effects you can trigger on top of anything the output is showing — including when it's stopped (black or the STOP image). MOGRAPH plays one of 6 animated motion graphics (pick which one in MENU): a drifting abstract pattern, swirling colors, scrolling color bars, a full-cover wipe you can use as a manual cutaway, pulse rings, or growing/shrinking colored shapes. CHYRON 1–4 are four of your own animated lower-third titles — set the text (multi-line is fine), background color, and transition style per Chyron in MENU; only one shows at a time. VIGNETTE softly darkens the edges like a portrait photo, FILM adds a retro grain-and-scratch look, and FANFARE sets off animated fireworks. CELEBRATE (confetti + spinning rays) is free; the rest are part of P23 Pro.
How do I send the show to a projector or TV?
Connect an HDMI adapter to the iPad. P23 automatically sends a clean program feed — picture and sound — to the external screen, while the iPad keeps the controls. Use the official Apple USB-C or Lightning AV adapter with its charger connected for the most reliable results. If you have Screen Mirroring turned on in Control Center, turn it off so the app uses the wired HDMI output.
Why does the iPad preview show a still frame with "PLAYING ON OUTPUT" while a video plays on the projector?
That's by design, and it keeps the projected picture smooth. While HDMI is connected, playing the same movie live on both the iPad and the external screen means decoding it twice at once, which can stutter or crash on smaller iPads. So the iPad preview shows a still frame of the running clip (with a "▶ PLAYING ON OUTPUT" badge) instead of a second live copy — the projector still plays the full moving video. Still images and PDF slide decks always show live in the preview, since they don't need video decoding. If you have a fast iPad and want the live moving preview too, turn on MENU → Live preview over HDMI. If playback then stutters or the app crashes, turn it back off — your iPad can't decode both at once. With no HDMI connected, the preview always plays live.
The MIDI control option says "not supported in this browser."
MIDI hardware control relies on the Web MIDI standard, which Apple's software doesn't support on iPhone or iPad. That option only works in a desktop Chrome/Edge browser, so it stays disabled in the iPad app. This is an Apple platform limitation, not a fault in P23.
A video imported but plays black, or won't import.
P23 plays H.264 video. If a clip comes in black or is rejected, re-export or convert it to H.264 MP4 and import it again. Importing from your Photo Library usually converts to a compatible format automatically.
It asked for camera access and I said no by mistake.
Go to Settings → P23 AV Presenter → and enable Camera access, then relaunch the app. The camera is used for the live external-input feature (EXT SRC) and for capturing photos/videos into your library.
What's in the free version, and what does the upgrade add?
The free version is fully usable: a working pad bank, all media types including PDF slide decks, fades, slide shows, HDMI output, and the CELEBRATE effect. The one-time P23 Pro in-app purchase unlocks the complete rig — all four banks (hundreds of pads), macros, save/load shows, SPEED and scratch control, COLOR grading, reverse, strobe, and the rest of the VFX suite (MOGRAPH, CHYRON titles, VIGNETTE, FILM, and FANFARE).
I bought Pro but it's not unlocked (new device, reinstall, etc.).
Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore purchase. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on any device signed in to it, including via Family Sharing.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes — P23 runs entirely on your device and needs no internet to import, play, or output your show. (An internet connection is only needed the first time to download the app and to make or restore a purchase, both handled by the App Store.)
